Scrappy because of all the leftover and really didn't want to buy new yarn .
Not cheap ~ Just thrifty!
That's what my Grandma Cunningham called me. She has been an inspiration for all of the crafts I indulge in.
I was gifted this pattern by a secret admirer, and so grateful they did.
Here's the story; I gathered yarns, that have been laying around in the scrap yarn basket FOREVER! Found just a little more than enough. If you look close enough you'll notice, the head and ears are a bit different color than the body, arms and legs but it worked. The yarn I chose for the shirt, is cute yarn.
I was hoping to find more of, but after looking at all the Big Lots in the area, didn't find any.
I love the mix of the cream, yellow and pink.
As I worked my new treasure, I asked my Handsome, (the hubby). Maybe I should donate all these toys to emergency responders for children that have been in trauma situations. Good idea I suppose. He asked if I would let a co-worker of his take this to his cousin that was in a automobile accident. Sure, why not!
Not thinking, I have never given thought of placing a "made by" card on the inside of the creatures.
Anyway, back to the story, this young man (early 20's) and his cousin (early 20's) were raised by their grandma. I don't want to know what happened to the Mother's of these children. Someone loves them enough to care for them.
The accident was so horrid, the young lady was unable to be brought back to Illinois, she is paralyzed. Can you imagine? My heart just hurts. The accident happened in Wisconsin and the family can only travel every other weekend.
On a weekend visit, the young man was accompanied by an uncle and another cousin (sibling). While on the weekend visit the uncle passed and had to be sent back to Illinois.
It makes me wonder how much devastation a family can endure.
My husband has been touched by this, and would like to gift this to the young lady as a hope of a speedy recovery and ability to walk again.
So in honor of the travel time and the hope of recovery.
I have named this scrappy mouse "Shotgun". That, no matter what, it's beside you for all of it.
The arms and legs are movable, I used buttons on the outside of the arms and legs, this way, if something comes off it's an easy fix, without damage to the worked pieces.
Yes, I give jointed toys like this to my grand~kids. Their Mom teaches them the difference between food and buttons.
Not much else for now, if I get a picture of her with Shotgun, you know I'll post it.
Prayers and hope for a complete recovery.
til next time,
wild clover
